something nice

a bible school graduate flew over to one of the villages in cambodia to speak to those who resided there. the villagers were really receptive towards God’s Word and kept pressing him for more. after sharing for approximately 2 hours, he prepared to leave. as he did so however, one of the elderly ladies suddenly approached him and began weeping profusely till his shirt was full of her tears. she then related the following to him:
when i was a young girl, my mom took me to phnom penh for the first time. i’d never been to the city before… at one time, we passed by this building with white, open doors. there were rows and rows of benches inside the building, and right at the front was a statue of a man hanging on a cross. “who is this man, mummy?” i asked. “that is the God of the christians,” she replied. “oh… what is his name?” i inquired. but she only said, “i don’t know… anyway, we’re buddhists so it doesn’t matter.” and with that, she pulled me away… i studied and eventually became a teacher. one time, i was teaching in class when some people from the khmer rouge came and took me away. they wanted to exterminate all those whom they thought would pose a threat to them- the intellectuals, like teachers, people wearing glasses and others. once we got outside, they handed each of us a shovel and ordered us to begin digging what was to become our own grave. and as we all dug, everyone began pleading and praying desperately to all their different gods to save them. however, the soldiers only laughed mockingly and forced us to continue digging. none of the gods had heard the cries of the people… then came the shooting. as i silently set my eyes on each person being shot to death, i suddenly remembered what i had seen when i was a young girl… and i thought that since the God of the christians had died by hanging on a cross, maybe he would understand what i was going through now. so i said, “God of the christians, i don’t know Your name… but i really need help right now.” suddenly, it began to thunder. the sky began to grow dark, and some say they saw the clouds forming into the shape of a cross. then i heard a voice speaking to me, saying, “I am the God of the christians, and i have heard you.” the soldiers began running away (but i’m not sure if they heard the voice too), and i didn’t get shot that day. and this is why i’m so thankful to you for coming here to speak to us about God today… because now, i finally know His name.”
